David Steffens—Percussion, Principal
David Steffens made his debut with the OKC PHIL in 1997 and has been playing percussion for 30 years. Steffens cites his greatest musical influences as his teacher, Robert Hohner but says an old neighbor introduced him to the field of percussion.
Even though he’s played with the Midland Symphony, West Shore Symphony Orchestra, Greater Lansing Symphony, Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, and Schlossfestspiele in Heidelberg, Germany, Steffens always enjoys the new repertoire with each season of the OKC PHIL.
Steffens earned both a bachelor’s and master’s of music and also holds a doctor of Musical Arts degree. He’s a faculty member at the Oklahoma Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain, president of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, and an artist/clinician for Black Swamp Percussion, Bosphorus Symbols, and Encore Mallets.
