Donna Cain, viola
Donna Cain has been playing viola with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic since 1999 and has performed regularly with orchestras in Tulsa and Lawton since 2008. Before coming to Oklahoma, Cain was assistant principal for the Masterworks Orchestra and the St. Cecila Orchestra in New York City. Throughout the 80s and 90s, she performed with the New Jersey Choral Society, The Brunswick Symphony, the New Jersey Pops, the Princeton Chamber Orchestra as well as the Princeton Pro Musica among others.
Cain earned her Master’s of Music from the University of Michigan and her Bachelor’s from Denison University in Ohio. She taught and performed in a variety of capacities in Ohio after completing her training including the Cleveland Chamber Players, the Akron Symphony and the Ohio Chamber Players.
Since 2000, Donna Cain has been a Professor of Music at Oklahoma City University where she teaches all university viola students and some violin students. She is responsible for coaching student string chamber ensembles and teaching Orchestra excerpt training. Cain is also active as a string coach with the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra. Her dedication to youth orchestras has been a long-standing element of her career with past affiliations to the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra, the New Jersey Youth Symphony and the Willoughby (Ohio) School of Fine Arts.
