James Meiller

James Meiller, clarinet

Jim Meiller, started his teaching career in 1980 in Lexington, Oklahoma. He has taught in Norman since 1983, at Norman High since the district split into two high schools in 1997. As Director of Instrumental Music at Norman High School his teaching duties include the NHS Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra. He is also Conductor of the pit orchestra for musical productions, most recently Hello Dolly and Oklahoma. During the year he may be found team teaching at Irving or Alcott Middle School.

Mr. Meiller grew up in Rochester, New York and earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree and the Performer’s Certificate from the State University of New York at Potsdam and a Masters of Music degree from the University of Oklahoma. In December, 1993 he was honored by being selected as the Reynolds Ford Teacher of the Month.

Mr. Meiller is an active clinician, guest conductor, adjudicator and performer. He has been a member of the clarinet section of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lyric Theatre Orchestra since 1982 and has performed with the Tulsa Philharmonic, and Lawton and Enid Symphony Orchestras. He is active as a free-lance musician in the Oklahoma City Area, recently performing with the National Tours of Fiddler on the Roof, Peter Pan and Thoroughly Modern Mille
