Nancy Stizza-Ortega—Piccolo/3rd Flute
Nancy Stizza-Ortega made her OKC PHIL debut in 1991 playing 4th flute on Holst’s “The Planets” and has been playing the flute/piccolo for 33 years.
Stizza-Ortega almost settled on the clarinet but chose the flute because she could produce sound on her first try -- not an easy task. Her greatest musical influence was her band director from middle school and high school who took her under his wing and inspired her to continue when she wanted to quit.
Other than the OKC PHIL, Stizza-Ortega is also the principal flutist for the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra. She loves her seasons with the OKC PHIL because she gets to stay absolutely busy preparing for the variety of music for each concert.
Stizza-Ortega holds both a bachelors of music education and a masters of music in flute performance from the University of Oklahoma. In addition to the OKC PHIL, she also teaches flute privately from home and at Oklahoma Baptist University.
