Densi Rushing—First Violin—Assistant Concertmaster
Densi Rushing began her career as an extra for the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra in 1980. She then transitioned to the OKC PHIL at its inception. Rushing began playing the violin at 7 years of age primarily because her older sister played and she couldn’t stand to see her sister doing something she was unable to do.
She says that her father, who also played the violin, has been one of her greatest musical influences. Her favorite composers are Brahms, Prokofiev, Haydn and Mozart.
Past credits include The Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque, Go For Baroque, the Enid Philharmonic, the Wichita Grand Opera, the Tulsa Philharmonic, Fort Smith Symphony and the Tonkawa Gala Orchestra. She is also concertmaster of the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra. Her quartet, String Quartets etc., provides music for many events including weddings, receptions and banquets.
Rushing, a former public school orchestra director, is a freelance musician with degrees in Music Performance and Music Education, and is the Professor of Violin at a University in Oklahoma City. Additionally, she is the orchestra contractor for Lyric Theatre Oklahoma, Celebrity Attractions OKC, and many other events.
Rushing also shows and breeds Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Her AKC Champion dogs hold titles in conformation, lure coursing, rally, obedience, therapy dog, and herding. She also loves gardening and home remodeling, however, her favorite thing to do is travel with her husband and son.
