Featuring two powerhouse German pieces framing the music of Liszt, we open the concert with the robust Emperor Waltzes by Johann Strauss, Jr., followed by the return of Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano with Liszt Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major. Then we close with Richard Strauss’ “monster” piece Ein Heldenleben in all its powerfully inventive and romantic glory.
