Musical programming is geared to children ages 4 to 13, and the pre-concert lobby activities include hands-on learning with the Instrument Playground provided by the Oklahoma City Orchestra League. Other community partners join us to offer arts, crafts, dance, and games related to the theme of the concert. All of the pre-concert fun unfolds one hour prior to each Discovery Concert.

  • Single ticket per concert = $9

All Discovery Family Series tickets are general admission tickets.

Conductor Matthew Troy

Matthew Thomas Troy is the Artistic Director & Conductor of the Piedmont Wind Symphony in North Carolina and the Education Conductor for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, where he conducts the Discovery Series, Educational Concert Series, Link Up Concerts, and leads outreach efforts and performances. He also served as the Associate Conductor of the Winston-Salem Symphony from 2008 – 2014.

In the summer of 2015 Troy was selected to serve as the Conductor of the Cannon Music Camp where he also performed with the faculty string ensemble. Troy has conducted orchestras across the country including the Rochester Philharmonic, North Carolina Symphony, Portland Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, Salisbury Symphony, Carolina Chamber Symphony, Kensington Consort, Philharmonia of Greensboro, Gate City Camerata, Triad Chamber Music Society and the UNC School of the Arts Symphony.

Troy has previously held positions as conductor of the Fibonacci Chamber Orchestra, the Wake Forest University Orchestra and the Salisbury Youth Orchestra. Additionally, Troy has previously taught on the faculties of Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and will teach at UNC-Greensboro in the Spring of 2016.

Troy is excited to serve as the Conductor for the 2016 Oklahoma All-State Orchestra in Tulsa in January. Troy earned a bachelor’s degree in music at UNC-Greensboro as violist, where he also completed his master’s degree in orchestral conducting. In addition to his conducting engagements, Troy also keeps a very active schedule as a public speaker and in his free time, he enjoys reading, studying new music, traveling, and singing.
